Five More Ortho Evra Lawsuits Filed
December 5, 2005
Five more Ortho Evra lawsuits
have been filed, bringing the total to 17 since November 10. The lawsuits
claim that Ortho Evra users have
suffered strokes, heart attacks and even death as a result of blood
clotting caused by high estrogen levels. Many of the victims are in
their teens and 20s.
A 23-year-old woman suffered a massive blockage of the right pulmonary artery
in May 2004 and was forced to undergo two heart surgeries. She had only
used Ortho Evra for nine months.
In another case, a 32-year-old used the patch for 11 months before dying
last July after suffering from clots in her right and left pulmonary
arteries.
Since the warning from the FDA in November, the number of Ortho
Evra lawsuits has continued to rise and shows no signs of slowing
down.
